1904 Gardner-Serpollet Steamer

 The 1904 4-cylinder Gardner-Serpollet 'Tulip' steamer. Alec Hodson (right) has just thrown a match into the tray of petrol (whoosh!) which heats up the paraffin jets for the boiler – like a huge primus stove. The G-S has a flash boiler, similar in principle to an electric bathroom shower; the alternative way of raising steam is the pot boiler, as a steam locomotive has. The incredible 1904 hand-operated windscreen wiper is clearly visible. The car is on trade plates; her real number is CCV876
